On May 24, 2009, at 19:10 o’clock, a fire occurred at the Compressor Room of the Diesel Desulphurization Unit in AB Mažeikių Nafta Refinery. The compressor was on fire. The gas leak may have been the cause of the fire.

The forces of the Fire and Rescue Service for Protection of AB Mažeikių Nafta promptly contained and extinguished the fire. People were not injured during the incident.

One of the two Diesel Desulphurization Units was shut down. Despite the fact that the incident affected the operation of other units, the customers have not experienced any interruptions of the product deliveries.

The specialists of AB Mažeikių Nafta are investigating the causes of the fire and identifying the losses. The fire had a minimum impact on the environment.
