Thursday, June 25th, Mažeikių Nafta’s security guards detected another attempt of illegal tapping into the product Pipeline Ilukste-Ventspils in Biržai District. The employees of the Company detected the tap to the pipeline, which is owned and operated on the Lithuanian territory by AB Mažeikių Nafta, during the usual walk inspection.
It has been the third attempt this year. The first attempt of tapping took place in March in Rokiškis District, near Juodupė Village. Due to failure of the illegal hose, used for stealing the product, diesel fuel was released into the environment, causing damage. Later, in May, the second attempt of illegal tapping into the pipeline was reported in Biržai District. The thieves tried to tap into the pipeline on the bottom of the Apaščia River, near Totoriai Village. As a result of this failed attempt, diesel fuel also was released into the environment.
