May 22, Mazeikiai. On May 22, 2007, at 12:55 p.m. an accident occurred in the production area of AB Mazeikiu Nafta.

During removal of the coils of the radiant chamber of heater Kr-601 by Mazeikiu Nafta’s subcontractor—Naftabudowa, one pipe became loose and hit two persons working in that location. One of them (born in 1952) was killed. Both persons were employed by the Polish company Naftabudowa.

The injured person (born in 1956) was promptly provided the first medical aid and he was taken to Mazeikiai hospital and later transported to Klaipeda.

Mazeikiu Nafta’s Safety Department and Mazeikiai District Prosecutor’s Office are investigating the accident circumstances on location. Investigation of the causes of the accident is being conducted.

According to Mazeikiu Nafta’s spokesman, when additional details of the accident become known, the public announcement will immediately follow.
