On Friday evening, the Lithuanian oil capital, Mažeikiai, lit a Christmas tree, a traditional gift to the town by the company ORLEN Lietuva. The Mažeikiai Christmas tree is different from other of the country's firs by the fact that it is artificial, and its height is 18 meters.

In the center of Mažeikiai, at the Square near the St. Francis of Assisi Church, the tree of an exclusive design and height has become the town’s symbol of Christmas for the third year in a row.

"Christmas is an extraordinary feast in town and at home, but taking into account the number of years it takes for a large spruce to grow, we decided to support protection of trees and to create Christmas mood in an environmentally friendly manner," said Ireneusz Fąfara, General Director of Orlen Lietuva. This year the company allocated 35 thousand litas for the town’s Christmas tree and decorations of Naftininkų Street.

Over the past two years, the tree of Mažeikiai took the second place in a row at the online elections of the most beautiful Lithuanian Christmas tree.

This year, ORLEN Lietuva has granted 637 thousand litas in total for the Mažeikiai community projects.
