‘We are ready for any scenario and we implement it very strongly and very consistently. We have been conducting a very intensive diversification process for several years now’ told Mr. Daniel Obajtek, President of PKN ORLEN Management Board, at a press conference held on the 30th of March in Poland.

At the beginning of 2020, more than 50 percent of crude supplies to the refineries operated by PKN ORLEN were produced in the east. The other part of supplies came from Saudi Arabia, North Sea, Norway, Angola, Nigeria.  ‘We have been working hard to test and adapt our refineries. We tried to select a basket of crude oil grades that would be optimal for use in our refineries. And we managed to do so’, said Mr. D. Obajtek.  ‘Supplies of crude oil for Lithuanian crude oil refinery in Mažeikiai have ceased from the east. 100 percent of crude supplied to this company comes from other directions. I would like to highlight that this company maintains the energy security on the markets of Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, partially on the market of Poland, also the market of Ukraine’.

The diversification process helped ORLEN Group to become independent of Russian oil.  For four years, PKN ORLEN has been intensively working on creating a multi-energy concern, which would be able to implement investments related to energy transformation. ‘We have very ambitious goals and we are implementing them.   There has been much talk about the merger of ORLEN with LOTOS. This is a business task and the key interest of Poland. The separation of LOTOS crude oil refinery is going on by reselling 30 percent of the assets under these conditions and we have found partner for this – Saudi Aramco. But this is not just assets – this is the contract for 20 million tons of oil for the region, for the whole ORLEN system’, said Daniel Obajtek at the press conference.  ‘We are stabilizing not only the energy security of Poland but, as I have already emphasized, also the energy security of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia’.
